Doubting Sarah Palin’s Favorability Decline in The Des Moines Register’s Iowa Poll

Palin-Iowa-GOP-3ORIGINAL ARTICLE POSTED BY SHANE VANDER HART

Sarah Palin’s favorability ratings are slipping!  Her favorability ratings are slipping!  That’s what you hear from The Des Moines Register today in their latest release of the Iowa Poll.
Tom Beaumont reports a drop from 71% to 65% in the last 15 months.
Three problems with this poll and story.
  1. The sample size – 189 people.  Not exactly the standard used in scientific polls.
  2. The margin of error of 7.1% +/- since the decline falls within the margin of error.
  3. Josh Painter points out that Beaumont fails to mention the last time this was polled was actually back in June.  Her favorability rating then was 58% with a 4.4% +/- margin of error.  So her favorability has actually increased by 6 points since June.
Why not report that?
The thrust of Beaumont’s article seems to have more to do with a lack of political activity in Iowa:
Why not report that?

The thrust of Beaumont’s article seems to have more to do with a lack of political activity in Iowa:

“. Sixty-five percent is not a very high favorable rating.”

But it isn’t a bad favorability rating either.  I agree that if she runs she needs to come to the state, however there are a number of prospective candidates who have not spent much time here…. yet.  I also suspect that her favorability rating will go up if she does start campaigning her because she is extremely good at retail politicking.
As far as the “some Iowa Republicans” who have said privately they don’t expect her to run based on fewer visits to Iowa.  So what?  Frankly I don’t give much credence to people who can’t attach their names to comments made.  It seems like political backbiting from people who support other candidates.  She may not run, but so far we are off to a slow start.  She has made a few visits, but she isn’t camped out here.  There has been some outreach done, but not a ton yet.  You can’t quite compare her activity to Rick Santorum’s or Tim Pawlenty’s for instance because she does have more name recognition, media exposure, and still has a lot of grassroots support.  Her campaign and candidacy will look different, but that doesn’t mean none of the rules apply
I still think she needs to participate in the Iowa Straw Poll and not wait too much longer, but I’m not writing off a candidacy yet.  It’s too early especially since no one has formally announced yet.
Anyway putting forth a narrative that her favorability is in decline based on the problems inherit with the poll and story seems to be to be a bunch of spin.

Rick Warren's Inspirational Christian Response To Personal Tragedy & Wealth

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set ETERNITY in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. Eccl 3:11

Make a purposeful living while you live on this earth.

You may find inspiration,as I have, the new insights that Rick Warren has, with his wife now having cancer and him having 'wealth' from the book sales. This is an incredible short interview with Rick Warren, 'Purpose Driven Life ' author and pastor of Saddleback Church in California . An instance of someone walking the walk in their Christian life.

In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, Rick said: People ask me, What is the purpose of life?

And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were not made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven. One day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me. I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity.

We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense. Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one. The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort; God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy. We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.

This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer. I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore. Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life.. No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on. And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for. You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems:

If you focus on your problems, you're going into self-centeredness, which is my problem, my issues, my pain.' But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others. We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her- It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people.

You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life.

Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy. It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don't think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease. So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72.

• First, in spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit.. We made no major purchases.

• Second, about midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.

• Third, we set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.

• Fourth, I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.

We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity? Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)?

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do.

Left Drops The Mask-They Hate Palin & Other Leading Republicans Because They are Deeply Christian

The radical "progressive" left makes a show of hating (actually not strong enough a word) the Republican candidates ostensibly because of their "right wing views" as the define them.

They pour on the hate because these Republicans have the temerity to oppose their chosen one and they pick on every flub, they use every sort of cheap invective and no curse word is to harsh for them to trot out.

All this in the nature of the unending warfare against the non-East/West Coast/Beltway mainstream whom they look down on, including candidate Obama, who let the mask slip, when he talked about mainstream Americans "clinging to their guns and religion."

But it is all a front for the real nature of their vitriolic hatred which is that Palin and other leading Republicans walk the talk with their deep commitment to their Christian faith. So much so that in an article attacking the faith based politicians title "God's Own Party Waits For The Chosen One"  the author quotes statements of faith  from Sarah Palin ,Mike Huckabee and Michele Bachman which are ridiculed with utter mercilessness.

Then the personality of each Christian is lampooned-Huckabee, a  former Baptist minister for goodness sake, is sarcastically said to follow God on Twitter and has a two way conversation. Of Bachman he says she "may not have the smarts to get to the White House, but she does have the cash and the connections. And among those connections, apparently, is direct line to the Almighty. and then when she is quoted "You are now looking at a fool for Christ. This is a fool for Christ." Then he smugly writes

"Truer words were never spoken."

As usual the very worst attack is reserved for Palin: "But as it turns out, Sarah Palin doesn't just have the Lord in her corner, she's also His spokesman." And further, "A jaw-dropping expose in Vanity Fair revealed the shocking extent of Palin's divine narcissism" Actually a jaw dropping hatchet job which even embarrassed moderate Dem's with its nastiness.

Proving the the short sighted idiocy of these rabid liberals, and their anti-faithed led Republican candidate hatred they are too blind to see that the very statements they hold up to ridicule are clear, deeply held, honest and truly Christian articles of a strong ethical way of life. To so ridicule these aspects of faith is to ridicule and insult the very Gospels on which true Christian life and faith is based.

Rather than subjecting Palin to mockery by the wider public they have done her a favor by showing where the well spring of her drive to be a servant comes from.

The execrable leftist Cooks&Liars ( they are not worth linking to) saw fit to run with this attack on people's genuinely held faith -which is of course no surprise.

Giulliani Easily Wins "Choose A Vice-President For Palin" Poll Amongst Experienced Potentials

Perhaps surprising to some pundits, but for very good reasons, Rudy Giulliani ran away with the "Choose a Vice-President For Palin" poll, as per the final results below, amongst potential VP's with a record of long service and electoral victories.

Giulliani has not be mentioned by the media in this regard but he would provide excellent balance to a Palin headed ticket given his years of experience, international recognition, successful management of a major responsibility-New York City, and of course the legacy of 9/11.

Allan West was the runaway winner amongst all potential candidates and he too has many outstanding qualities, and with Florida being such a vital state his addition to a Palin ticket would have much to recommend it.

Perhaps surprisingly too is the relatively low vote for Marco Rubio who has often been mentioned as a strong VP possibility but who ran behind new high profile possible presidenial candidate Herman Cain.

The 230 vote poll was a realistic point of time snapshot especially as voters were only allowed one vote each.

Here are the final results:

Rudy Giuliani 15.22% (35 votes)

Condoleezza Rice 3.48% (8 votes)

Mike Huckabee 1.3% (3 votes)

Tim Pawlenty 0.87% (2 votes)

Mitt Romney 2.17% (5 votes)

Mike Pence 3.48% (8 votes)

Haley Barbour 0% (0 votes)

Herman Cain 5.65% (13 votes)

Newt Gingrich 0.87% (2 votes)

Chris Christie 2.61% (6 votes)

Marco Rubio 3.91% (9 votes)

Rick Perry 3.48% (8 votes)

Mitch Daniels 1.3% (3 votes)

Allen West 44.35% (102 votes)

Other: 11.3% (26 votes)

Total Votes: 230

Anti-Palin ("Fading Star") MCClatchy Press Ignores Polling History "Carter 65% Reagan 31%"

In an article from the consistently anti-Palin MCClatchy Group of Newspapers the author determined,by reporting on a meeting of 150 Republican activists in South Carolina and taking selective quotes that "Palin's star is fading."

There were selective, unfavorable quotes about other possible GOP 2102 candidates as well but the author chose to headline the article with his impressions-I wonder why?

To emphasis further how Palin is, apparently according to their own pollster on the way out, and with no chance against President Obama, they quote their polling showing, in a head to head match up Obama 56% and Palin 30%. What they don't of course mention is the Democratic Party aligned PPP Poll (on the radical Kos website) from February 16th showing Obama at 52% to Palin at 40%. This was a substantial rise for Palin from 55% to 38% from the same pollster in January.

The PPP and MCClatchy polls, when put into an historical framework prove they mean next to nothing as predictors if we look at examples from actual election years rather than two years out.

In the 1988 campaign, as documented by Goldman and Mathews "Quest For The Presidency 1988" Vice President, as he was then, George H.W. Bush, with all the power of office and as second in command to a hugely popular president, was at the commencement of campaigning in May of that year 16 percentage points behind the challenger Michael Dukakis who was polling (KRC Hotline poll) at 54% compared to Bush at 38%.

After the Democratic Party held their July convention the Gallup poll result was Dukakis 54% and Bush 37% a seemingly insurmountable 17% lead with only just about four months campaigning time left against a fired up opposition. The result on election day however was Bush 53.4% and Dukakis 45.7 %. A massive turnaround for Bush changing a 17% deficit into a near 8% winning margin.

Palin, according to PPP has a smaller deficit 12%  than Bush had with the obvious difference being that she has not three months or so to catch up and pass Obama but nearly two years . Given Palin's incredible capacity to recover from the most vicious campaign ever mounted against a candidate, her growth in stature as each month passes, the massive support/structural base in people (including the many candidates she is helping to get elected or re-elected) and money she is building up it would be foolhardy in the extreme to believe she is not capable of achieving that result.

It is interesting to consider the opinions of  Bush's inner circle, who gave him only 60-40 odds of winning as their private polls showed a deficit of 18% at the commencement of the campaign, and the authors comment that "The press and political industry had already been consigning him to an early (political ) grave".  This of Bush who, with respect is not perceived as the sort of fighter that Palin is by nature, but rather had to be dragooned into mounting an effective campaign by his handlers.

There is a striking point of similarity between the elder Bush and Palin however which is clear by this comment "To be sure he had values....he could fairly claim to have lived an exemplary life of service to God, country and family and to the ideals of honor, achievement and common decency". As this is a true and valid comment on Palin too there is no reason to doubt that those shared values will enable her to overcome the same electoral challenges-especially given the much longer time frame she has to work in.

It is instructive also to note that as late as August in the 1948 election Harry Truman was eleven points behind Dewey and ended up winning by 4.5% (49.55/45.07). President Ford was, as late as July 1976 an incredible 33% points behind Jimmy Carter and on election day lost by 2% (50.08% for Carter to 48.02% to Ford) an incredible recovery by Ford which makes Palin's hurdle pale into insignificance. It is more than probable in fact that if Ford had not made such a terrible gaffe about the Soviets influence in Eastern Europe he would have won.

In June 2000 Al Gore was 17 points behind G.W. and even as late as October he was 8 points behind 50/42 but went on to win the popular vote by half a million. But the best example of why the anti-Palin media should be ignored is this Harris/ABC Poll from Election year 1980:

CARTER  NOW  FAR  AHEAD  OF  BOTH  REAGAN  AND  BUSH

"President   Ca r t e r   so  dominates the American political scene now that his margin
over Ronald Reagan has risen to an overwhelming 65-31% "

If Palin wants and receives the nomination the ultimate prize is very much there to be won.

Don't Watch Academy Awards: Liberal Agenda To Destroy Traditional American Family

The kids are not all right.

Once again the denizens of Hollywood are using their unique propaganda tool, the Academy Awards, in the aid of their warped social philosophy.

It is a fair assumption, one only has to peruse the cover of  a gossip magazine, that a higher proportion of neurotics, drug users, out and out societal misfits, and the just plain mad who compose a proportion of the entertainment industry in numbers well  above the national average will be gathered together on awards night.

On top of their collective neuroses, and surely actors by their very profession are subject to various manifestations of eccentricity, they have, through the massive reach of their medium, enormous power, wealth and great influence on the average person.

Thus what just a few years ago would have been considered a gross perversion, if not illegal and generally not even possible, same sex couples adopting, or creating via the loving mechanics of a turkey baster, babies.

High profile entertainment industry types, can, through their wealth and media power, undertake actions which if a normal person attempted it they would be castigated or even arrested for breaking societies taboos. Over the years we have seen these structures of society attacked and then broken and then made commonplace by actors.

At one time, not too long ago for a couple, heterosexual that is,gays would have been unthinkable, to live together openly in a sexual relationship would have been impossible, especially if children were involved.
Then major "stars" started doing so, the radical communist Vanessa Redgrave springs to mind as an example.

Shock horror newspaper headlines followed, then the glossies started to make it "interesting' and shortly after it became "normal" irrespective of what example it set for society and the effect it would have on children of such relationships. Of course such unstable relationships composed of unstable people break up one after another with untold harm on the innocents who are caught up in such horrors.

That aspect of normal society undermined the next attack,Gay and lesbian same sex relationships adopting children hove into view. Again, the unthinkable becomes, via the wealth,"prestige", and power of entertainment types perfectly acceptable to society. Elton John and partner adopts, how is it possible for men of their age in the first place to adopt an infant? Cynthia Nixon's "fiancee' gives birth amongst recent examples.

There are no long term studies on how children who grow up in these unnatural parenting relationships adjust in society. What sort of difficulties to they encounter at school amongst their peers? Do the have trouble establishing an heterosexual relationship?

What effect will this have on population trends amongst Western nations and if they decline what will be the economic effects and the social effects as more third world labor is needed to take up the slack?

Hollywood doesn't care-all the denizens care about is satisfying their ego's, carnal nature and their hedonism "Cocaine is God's way of telling you you have too much money" Robin Williams is quoted as saying, Lohan, Sheen-well the list of examples is endless. Now having children has become their latest status symbol. It started with the adopting out of Africa craze and now has spread to same sex couples.

There are no barriers to satisfying their needs for those in the entertainment industry. Same sex parenting a no no? The propaganda machine starts. The first foray was The Birdcage with lovable characters, then "The kids are all right" whose premise is " look we lesbian parent couples are not weird, we have all the "normal" family problems and squabbles just like everyone else so our parenting is "normal"-just like everyone else.

Society has accepted that same sex couples can and should they wish live in a relationship protected by law-it is called a civil union. Where the public has had the opportunity to vote on the matter, even in ultra-liberal California, they have rejected same sex "marriage."

Perhaps same sex parenting should also be put to the popular will, which is after all society itself, because if same sex marriage is not acceptable then perhaps same sex parenting which has the potential to inflict much psychic damage, is too important to leave to the propaganda mill that will be on show at the Academy Awards.

If The USA Was Run By President Palin Offshore Drilling Could Make Alaska World's 8th Largest Oil Producer

By: Senior Editorial Correspondent Lisa Gilmer

A new study came out about drilling in Palin's home state of Alaska:

Offshore Drilling Could Make Alaska the Eighth Largest Oil Producer in the World – Ahead of Libya and Nigeria

"February 25, 2011 (CNSNews.com) – A new study says drilling on Alaska’s Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) could make Alaska the eighth largest oil resource province in the world -- ahead of Nigeria, Libya, Russia and Norway.

The report -- by the consulting firm Northern Economics and the University of Alaska-Anchorage’s Institute of Social and Economic Research -- says that developing Alaska’s OCS could produce almost 10 billion barrels of oil and 15 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, create around 55,000 new jobs and produce $145 billion in new payroll nationally, generating a total of $193 billion in government revenue through the year 2057."

So who could make this a reality for America? Would this opportunity for resource development ever have a chance in hell to come to fruition under the current feckless, statist regime running Washington?

Hardy har har har! I laugh!

But what if the USA was run by a President Palin? I betcha she would seriously consider making this study into a reality if it was good for America.

Absolutely NOTHING the current regime is doing is "good" for America. Socialism never has worked and never will work.

America needs to be restored and a Palin Presidency just might be the - oh, so perfect solution in so many respects.

I conclude my February 2011 Palin posts by listing just a few more traits, besides being a pro-exploring America resources person. She has many positive traits which would make her an excellent POTUS:

1) truly understands bipartisanship
2) has governing experience of all male state
3) has 60-80% of Americans support
4) is pro individualism
5) is pro USA founders and religious faith
6) very family oriented
7) gets things done
8) is honest
9) is trustworthy

Other strong Palin-for-POTUS traits I listed this month are below. She is a:

10) hard worker
11) pro Israel
12) Reagan principled conservative
13) corruption fighter
14) leader
15) environment conservationist
16) smaller federal gubmit
17) smart & savvy
18) smart energy, drill locally
19) pro-life
20) proud American patriot
21) pro USA states
22) author, writer and no-prompter speaker
23) pro military
24) calls out leftist nonsense
25) believes in American exceptionalism
26) momma grizzly on budget
27) pro small business
28) regular populist, not elitist

How does YOUR favorite candidate for 2012 stack up? Who else has a stronger list of character traits and conservative values than Sarah Palin? I would be curious to hear a logical argument for someone else and your list of 28 or more... Go for it...

In the meantime, enjoy a radio show clip posted this week around the blogosphere which sums up how the more the left attacks her, the more it will make the center/right stand up and proudly support her candidacy if she chooses to run... (let's hope she does):

Allen West Landslides "Point Of View" VP For Palin Poll "Sure I'd Consider VP Slot"

With just two days to go on the "Vote for your choice for Sarah Palin's Vice-President" poll"

Link: http://recovering-liberal.blogspot.com/2011/02/astonishing-results-too-date-for-vote.html

Allan West is running away as the choice of Republican supporters as the 2012 choice for Vice-President serving with Sarah Palin.with over 45% of the vote in a potential field of 14.

West, when asked about his possible intentions in respect of the VP nomination said, according to a report in 'The Hill':

"I have to pray about it and I have to clear it with my wife and two daughters," said West, "I never thought that seven years ago when I retired here I'd be a United States congressman, and that I'd be standing in front of your news camera. So we don't know what the future holds, but I'm always willing to serve my country."

Clearly if the 'Point Of View' poll result is any indication he would find substantial support for his candidacy.

One factor however is the experience issue which may have prompted poll voters to give Rudy Giuliani a solid second place-well ahead of any other VP pick on the poll list.

David Brooks/Andrew Sullivan Boost Mitch Daniel's.The Kiss Of Death In Action

"Run Mitch Run" propounds David Brooks, pet conservative of the ultra-East Coast liberal New York Times.

I won't bore anyone with the details-they are at the link if people can be bothered to read the paean.

This is the absolute kiss of death to any chances Daniel's might have had for the GOP nomination.

This was basically next to nil up to today because of his call for a "pause" on social issues and his flip flopping on the union controversy.

The final nail in the coffin is the sad news, for him, that Andrew Sullivan has issued a piece agreeing with Brooks and supporting Daniels.

Palin supporters thank both of these RINO's for their anointed choice-which is in reality the last rites.

Vanity Fair Goes Utterly Insane "Palin's Trip To India Will Cost Taxpayers More Than $200 Million A Day

The once great publication Vanity Fair has plumbed the absolute depths of Palin Derangement Syndrome by headlining, in their "culture" section no less the question "Will Sarah Palin's trip to India cost taxpayers $200 million per day?"

The author-whose name I won't write as to give her credit for being an actual human being is going too far, then goes on to equate Michele Bachman's legitimate querying of the cost of President Obama's visit to India based on a calculation that included secret service, air force one, media and ancillary costs.

Palin is going as a private citizen of course so there should be no cost whatsoever to the taxpayer-in fact, presuming she is being paid for her speech there, which is not confirmed, then the taxpayer will benefit as she pays the tax due on that income.

Notably a correspondent questions whether the author has calculated the cost of  President' Obama's family trips to Spain, and latterly skiing in Vail. However since that doesn't fit in with Vanity Fair's consistent hatchet jobs on Palin the question will go unanswered.

One question that is not unanswered is "is the east Coast media in the tank for Obama and suffering from PDS?"

Obviously the author is trying to be satirical-and failing badly, all she has done is make a once great publication look childish.

My point is that PDS has so rattled their brains (sic) that they would actually come up with such idiocy to try and denigrate Palin. They are utterly pathetic.

Gallup Poll Of 1.326 Republican Supporters On Moral Values;Palin/Huck 47% Romney/Newt 13%

A new Gallup poll covering issues that are indicated as important to 1,326 Republican and Republican leaning voters is instructive as an indication of the thinking of the grass roots as the time for declaration of intent by possible candidates approaches.

If the Palin/Huckabee voters are included as one block, which common sense surely dictates and the Romney/Gingrich voters are similarly congregated a clearer picture emerges.

National Security and Foreign Policy: Palin/Huckabee 42%   Romney/Gingrich 26%
Social Issues& Moral Values:                "           "        47%           "       "         13%
Business& Economy:                             "           "        30%           "       "         28%
Gov't Spending&  Power                       "           "        29%           "       "         30%

As can be seen in the categories of business/economy/government there is not any real clearly perceived difference between the two groupings. But in the categories of moral leadership and world leadership/defending American exceptionalism the Palin/Huckabee pairing is substantially out in front.

This leads to a conclusion that faced with a similarity on economics and government and looking for a point of differentiation to make their choice the Republican supporters have clearly defined what they are looking for in their 2012 nominee. This has been born out time and time again in poll after poll where the Palin group has more than double the support of Romney.

If Huckabee chooses not to run and Palin does then, based on previous direct polling, and the above analysis Palin is in a very strong position to obtain the nomination.
